Phil Charrette is the drummer and one of the lead vocalists for the Bombsquad. Phil’s voice can change like a chameleon to sing any style while still holding down a steady beat. Phil is somewhat of a freak of nature when it comes to singing because when he opens his mouth he can sound like Patti Labelle or Marvin Gaye one minute then Isaac Hayes the next.
It is this type of diversity that sets Phil apart from the rest and makes him an integral part of the Bombsquad. Phil’s talents run deep as a gifted vocalist, drummer and guitarist as well. When people watch the band perform, they often look for a female vocalist. With a vocal range that most singers dream of, Phil’s voice opens the door to material most bands don’t dare tackle.
With over 20 years experience, Phil has had the opportunity to open for many national acts such as Kansas, Honeymoon Suite, Rik Emmit (of Triumph), Quiet Riot and Foghat. He was lucky enough to play drums and sing a few songs with Canadian recording act Odds.
Phil is also a solo acoustic vocalist performing regularly in the U.S.A and Canada, but many in the Windsor area will remember him as the drummer for the band Vagabond.
Phil Charrette and Mark Chichkan were former acoustic partners playing regularly at Windsor area pubs and patios in the 90’s, so when the need for a drummer with blazing vocals was required, Mark knew where to turn.
A long distance call to Colombia was placed where Phil was teaching English (one of Phil’s other talents) when Phil informed Chichkan that his teaching term was up and he’d be coming home shortly. All the pieces fell into place and the Bombsquad was realized.
